Sterling Musical Instruments has welcomed the baritone section of the renowned Tredegar Town Band to its roster of Artists.
Principal baritone player Carole Ednie and second baritone player Tabitha Rodway took delivery of their new Sterling Virtuoso baritones earlier this year, with the pair using the instruments on stage at the recent British Open Championship in Birmingham.
Reflecting on her experience with the Sterling Virtuoso so far, Carole Ednie commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed playing the Sterling baritone over the past five months.
"From the outset, I have been impressed by how free-blowing and responsive the instrument feels, allowing me to move effortlessly between lyrical passages and more technically demanding repertoire. It produces a rich, warm and versatile tone, with plenty of depth and clarity across the register.”
Carole added: “I’m really looking forward to continuing to explore the capabilities of the Sterling and discovering the different colours and possibilities it offers across a wide range of repertoire.”
The news comes in a milestone year for Tredegar Town Band, as it celebrates its 150th anniversary. Tredegar is one of the world's premier brass bands, renowned for its competitive excellence and pioneering artistic collaborations.
Led by Musical Director Ian Porthouse since 2008, Tredegar achieved historic acclaim by winning the British Open Championship in both 2010 and 2013, and earlier in 2026, secured a prestigious third-place podium finish at the European Brass Band Championships.
Beyond traditional contest stages, Tredegar is a trailblazer in cross-arts media and performance. The band famously performed on the BAFTA Award-winning film Pride (2014), debuted at the BBC Proms with two history-making performances in a single season, and collaborated with the Rambert Dance Company on the critically acclaimed production Dark Arteries.
The news also marks the latest significant endorsement of the new Sterling Virtuoso baritone, which has earned widespread plaudits since its release.
Rob Westacott, chairman of Tredegar Town Band, said: “Tredegar Town Band was delighted to receive two new Sterling Virtuoso baritones, which made their debut at the British Open.
“These fabulous instruments blended exceptionally well, and offered great flexibility and sound across the range.
“We look forward to continuing this partnership as the band enters its 151st year in 2027, with some very exciting projects in the pipeline.”
